I am an architect with many years of experience in residential housing. A sole practitioner, I work in Wellington on a wide range of housing and apartment projects.

My design focus is to improve the quality of my clients’ living environment. I am interested in logical planning, great light, spaciousness, good detailing and quality materials. I endeavour to give my designs a sense of calmness and serenity that is uplifting.

Some of my clients are surprised to learn that all drawings created by Clare Bush Architects are drawn by hand. For me, drawing is an integral part of the design process, which assists with my understanding of the 3D spaces I am trying to create. The craft of architecture is integrated with the craft of drawing, also reducing the risks of ‘cut and paste.’

When approaching a new design, I am often inspired by the architecture of the existing house. While I have a fondness for old character houses, I grew up living in and surrounded by stylish modernist homes, and these houses are etched into my history. Basically, I love great houses.

My work is also informed by my strong understanding of the changing needs of a family and the demands of domestic life.

Good architecture is always a team effort, and I enjoy working in conjunction with engineers, builders, joiners and the many other subcontractors involved in a project – but nothing is possible without great clients.

I’d love to hear from you.
