1850s REWORKED
This brand-new conservatory was added to a very elegant old 1850s house. The conservatory replaced one from the 1980s, but an old painting of the property revealed that there had always been a glazed room in this position.
The windows were designed to be sympathetic to the original windows in the house. The large end windows slide open and the six Velux skylights let plenty of overhead light in, though not so much that the room over heats. The concrete floor was made fabulous with the addition of beautiful tiles.
At the other end of the house, a kitchen, also from the 1980s, was reconfigured to capture more light and make better use of the space. A fire-rated window was added above the bench, and the area by the dining room table was rebuilt to include the skylights and new sliding doors. Unusually wide kauri floor boards were sourced by the owners to match the existing floor.
